Here’s a complete list of what you can do with Gtalk in run command prompt.
"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe" /parameter
  • /nomutex: Open more than 1 Gtalk.
  • /autostart: Check the registry settings to see if Gtalk needs to be started. If the “Start automatically with Windows” option is unchecked, it won’t start.
  • /forcestart: Similar to /autostart, but forces Gtalk to start.
  • /S upgrade: Used when upgrading Google Talk
  • /register: registers Google Talk in the registry, including the GMail Compose method.
  • /checkupdate: check for newer versions
  • /plaintextauth: uses plain authentication mechanism instead then Google’s GAIA mechanism. Used for testing the plain method on Google’s servers.
  • /nogaiaauth: disables GAIA authentication method. The same as above.
  • /factoryreset: set settings back to default.
  • /gaiaserver servername.com: uses a different GAIA server to connect to Google Talk. Used for debug purposes only, there are no other known GAIA servers.
  • /mailto email@host.com: send an email with Gmail
  • /diag: start Google Talk in diagnostic mode

Google Lets You Monitor Access To Your Gmail Account

Gmail has introduced a new privacy feature that will let users see how many computers their account is open on, and also allows them to sign-out remotely. Basic information is displayed as part of the page’s standard footer, and users looking for more detailed information can view a log that displays the most recent IP addresses to access the account, along with the type of access (Mobile, POP, etc.)

The new feature will be especially useful for monitoring email accounts for privacy intrusions, as well as for users who like to use Gmail from public terminals and may forget to manually log-off. Google says that the feature is being rolled out as part of the latest version of Gmail, but it appears that not all accounts are active (I couldn’t access it from my account).

The new Gmail features are the latest in a string of privacy-related announcements to come from the search giant. On Thursday we reported on a judge’s mandate for Google to turn over all YouTube user records as part of the Viacom/YouTube lawsuit, which has been met with widespread outrage. Since then, Google seems intent on demonstrating its concern for privacy, having moved its privacy policy to its homepage (after months of opposing the change) and releasing the enhanced Gmail security.

Mark All unread email as Read - Gmail

I had 4500 unwanted emails and wanted to make my unread email to 0, suddenly i could find a way
  1. Go to your Settings/Filters page and create a new filter.
  2. In the Has the words field enter “is:unread” (without quotes), and click the Next Step button.
  3. You’ll get a message warning you that this type of filter won’t be applied to new mail, but that’s OK.  Click OK to continue.
  4. Check the boxes next to Mark as read and Also apply filter to … conversations below.
  5. Click Create Filter button, and you’re done.  You might want to should delete the filter once you finish since it won’t be needing it anymore.

Did you receive this email to your gmail account - Do not reply, it's SPAM!!! ?

Hi Friends,

Did you recevied below email to your gmail account with the subject "Google Verification" do not reply with the data they have asked, probably this email generated by someone trying to use your account inappropriately.

Just think if it's from google why they are asking for the password, because they can get our details whenever they want and they don't need to ask that from us.

Please beware from these emails. And also keep in mind do not use same password you are using to your email when you are registering with other sites. Because normally your username will be your email in those sites and password if you type same as of your email, the admins of that particular site can give a try to log in to your email.

Just think if your email having important details, they can change the password and they will ask for money or something to give your changed password back. (Even they can give a try to log in to your facebook account too)
